You know, coaches and consultants are some of the best teachers that I know. So why do many of them struggle to create video content for their business? Well, I think it boils down to the fact that video content can be overwhelming. Where do you start? What do you do? What gear do you need? And then it’s just a constant grind – another piece of video, another piece of video, and so on.

At the end of the day, you didn’t get into coaching and consulting just to sell your services. You got into it to teach and to inspire and to rally people around a message that burns inside of them. Well, what if I told you that your content could be more than just marketing material, that it could actually coach and engage people long before they become a client? Well, that’s what this podcast is exactly about.

Hi, I’m Darren Cooper, founder and CEO (sounds so fancy) of 1898 Creative, a video production company that works with coaches and consultants to help them win with video. After almost a decade of creating content for the clients that we work with, it’s time for me to step in front of the camera and start to put my money where my mouth is and create some content of my own. Yes, that’s right, this is really because I’ve been barking for years to create more content, create more video content, repurpose it, do all the things. I’ve been coaching that for a long time, and now it’s time for me to actually take my own advice. So welcome to the Coaching with Content podcast.

I just wanted to take a couple of minutes and kind of bring you up to speed on what this podcast is about, who it’s for, all that kind of fun stuff. So let’s start there – who is this podcast for? Well, first and foremost, if you haven’t picked up on it already, this podcast is for coaches and consultants who are wanting to create video content. First and foremost that is exactly who we are talking to. So if you’re a coach or a consultant and either you’ve started to create content or maybe you have for years and you’re just trying to level up, this podcast is for you.

The second type of person that this podcast would be for is the personal brand. Those who are building a personal brand – are you looking to kind of level up your authority to get an audience kind of around your message? Well then this podcast will be for you. When we talk about video content, when we talk about how to, when we talk about processes and procedures and just giving kind of some creative ideas along the way, if you’re building a personal brand, this one is for you.

And then third and foremost, it’s for new or experienced coaches. I know that kind of covers everybody, right? But if you’re looking to do more than just simply create content, you’re going “Man, I don’t want to just go viral, I don’t want to just chase all the latest fads.” If you’re just like, “Man, I want to create something and coach people through my process, my ideas,” then this podcast is for you. It’s not about how to go viral in 30 days or less. No, this is about the constant drip of content out into the world to build authority, to make true and lasting connection. So if you’re a coach or a consultant, you’re building a personal brand, or you’re new or an experienced coach that’s just looking to level up on some of that, that is who this podcast is for.

So what can you expect to find and see in the next few weeks and months to come when it comes to this podcast? Let me talk about the format for a little bit. What you can expect over the next few weeks and months are kind of three different ways that we will engage you as an audience member. First and foremost, what I would call solo episodes. That’s going to be me talking, usually with a co-host because I really want to make it a conversation. I don’t want to just talk at you or give you information. I want to have a conversation with that co-host that their ideas will spark new ideas and all that kind of stuff. So you’ll have these solo episodes where me and somebody else will sit down and talk around a topic, some type of topic that we’re discussing or thinking about for that week or that month.

And then the second one, the second way is going to be through interviews. So I want to find other coaches and consultants that are doing amazing work in the world, and I want to bring them in and I want to sit down and say, “What are you doing that’s working? What are you doing that’s not working? How can we learn from your experience?” Some of these might have large platforms doing a ton of activity with content, and others might be just getting started in their journey, and we’re going to learn as they build as well. So the interview portion of that.

And the third and final way is going to be through case studies. At 1898 Creative, we have a lot of clients that we’re trying things with and trying to see what works and what doesn’t. We want to bring those conversations in and just highlight them with you. “Hey, we tried this and it fell flat on our face – don’t do that.” Or, “Hey, we tried this, we didn’t think it was going to work, and look, it actually worked.” So a lot of case study talk, different things like that. So solo episodes, interview episodes, and some case study episodes are going to be the biggest way that you will see over the next few weeks and months that this podcast unfolds.

As far as topics, we’re gonna go from how to use content to position yourself as a trusted coach, talking about podcasting, talking about YouTube, creating a content system that you never feel overwhelmed by. We really want to look at this and not put more on your plate but take and remove some pressure to just always constantly be on. How can we create a system that works for you there and how do you stay consistent even when you’re busy? Look, we’re not here to say hustle culture, do more, do more, do more. Really, we want to help you create systems and processes that make it easy, that you can connect with your right audience member and you can coach them through your content. That they can engage with you long before they ever sign on the dotted line with you. They can engage with you through your content, and that’s really what it’s all about and kind of some of the things that you’ll be experiencing here.

And why am I doing this? I kind of alluded to it earlier. I talk for years about creating content, especially video content for businesses and how it helps grow your authority and it grows your reach and all that kind of stuff. And I just want to take what I’ve learned over the last handful of years and just kind of present it. This is scary. I think you could relate to the fact that whenever you push record on something, especially for the first time – this is episode zero – it can be extremely nerve-wracking. And I’m scared, and I’m just here to say that just like you would be, sometimes you just got to hit record even if you’re scared to death. And that’s what we’re here doing and that’s why I feel like this is so, so important to do this for me. Like, you know, for me this is why, you know, my portion to give into the world.

So I can’t wait to share some of these insights, some of these conversations, and some of these little case studies, if you will.
